GOPIO’S BIENNIAL CONVENTION 2013 to be held in Sydney
The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO International) has scheduled its Biennial Convention 2013 to be held in Sydney, Australia on 8th- 9th November, 2013 immediately preceding 7th Regional Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD2013 Sydney). The events’ meetings, conferences and banquet will be held at the Sapphire Function Centre in Sydney. The planning team is managed by GOPIO International Coordinator (Oceania) Umesh Chandra as Convener, and Chairperson of GOPIO’s Committee on By-Laws, Policies & Procedures, Harmohan (Harry) Walia, as Co-Convener.
The overall theme of GOPIO’s Biennial Convention 2013 is “The Indian Diaspora in Oceania: Growth and Opportunities”. 8th November (Day 1) of the convention is reserved for GOPIO’s Executive Council meetings, GOPIO General Council meetings and Country Reports. 9th November (Day 2) is a full day of conference starting with 2 sessions on Indian Diaspora issues, followed by GOPIO 2nd Women’s Conference focusing on “Women of the Indian Diaspora – Challenges, Empowerment & Opportunities” to address current, critical issues confronting women of all ages globally. The convention concludes with a full banquet and cultural program on the evening of 9th November (Day 2).
The planned GOPIO 2nd Women’s Conference is being held as an integral part of GOPIO’s Biennial Convention, and is expected to attract a sizeable number of delegates, including civic leaders, educators, professionals, entrepreneurs, government officials and diplomats from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Malaysia and neighboring countries in the region and India.
GOPIO International is a prominent, international advocacy organization that monitors and addresses the issues and interests of persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) living outside of India. It recognizes the tangible and meaningful contributions of the over 25 million PIOs all over the world in various countries, their sense of patriotism and national loyalty while making significant progress in all segments of society.
Since its inception, GOPIO has been promoting awareness and understanding of issues of concern and interest — social, cultural, educational, economic, political – of the PIO communities around the globe. GOPIO also provides an active and well recognized platform for dialogue and discussion to the worldwide Indian Diaspora. To further advance that objective, GOPIO has been at the forefront to network the globally spread overseas Indian community by regularly organizing conferences in various parts of the world.
